Protesters Vandalized a Peace Monument in Atlanta

Mob mentality: it’s a scary thing.  On Sunday, protestors in Atlanta vandalized a statue that is actually a peace monument.

Atlanta erected the monument in 1911.  It depicts an angel guiding a Confederate soldier to lay down his weapon.  The statue symbolizes healing and reconciliation after the Civil War.

Oftentimes, citizens said the statue was ahead of its time.  The artwork was erected before both the Women’s Suffrage and the Civil Rights movement.

Thornton Kennedy, an Atlanta history buff said:

These guys realized a national healing needed to take place.  They organized a peace tour of the North, which is really remarkable.  These were guys who fought in the Civil War, against Union troops.

Basically, Progressives destroyed a monument made to honor Progressives.  They marched upon the statue, wearing masks and dressed in black.  When the real symbolism of the statue came to light, everyone sheepishly scurried away.

Sadly, the mainstream media has sensationalized a situation and given people an excuse to wreak havoc on the United States.  Herd mentality is a fire, and they are pouring the kerosene.

As liberals seek to destroy our history, they are forgetting that both sides in the Civil War housed honorable men and women.  I’ve discussed in a prior article that there is a better way to handle the situation of Confederate statues.

Did Charlottesville not teach us anything?  Let’s all start acting like civilized Americans and respect one another, our history, and our country.
