White people will NEVER be off the hook for injustices committed hundreds of years ago.

The countries beginning involved conquering native Americans and using African slave labor. As a result Native Americans have been granted land in the form of reservations, free health and educational benefits, and massive financial support. Has that debt been paid? No.

Now African Americans believe they deserve the same reparations. Apparently having first dibs at jobs and education in order to provide diversity in those environments isn’t enough.

The United Nations’ Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent concluded that “the legacy of colonial history, enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the United States remains a serious challenge, as there has been no real commitment to reparations and to truth and reconciliation for people of African descent.”

The group drew comparisons between lynchings of earlier decades and contemporary police killings. It recommended “urgent action” through “improving the reporting of violations involving the excessive use of force and extrajudicial killings by the police.”

This conclusion was reached after a fact-finding mission in Washington in January. The group’s recommendations are non-binding, yet echo a similar call for reparations by a coalition of Caribbean nations, the main tenets of which the United States should adopt, according to the U.N. group.

“Past injustices and crimes against African Americans need to be addressed with reparatory justice,” the group declared in a statement. Reparations could take the form of “a formal apology, health initiatives, educational opportunities, an African knowledge programme, psychological rehabilitation, technology transfer and financial support, and debt cancellation.”

When will this repayment for past injustices end? Current generations of white people had nothing to do with what happened in the past and yet they are required to pay the debt.

    I want payback for ruining my education. I dropped out of school due to the riots and constantly fights against the whites. I did get my GED and went onto college but still a lot of whites we’re terrorized by blacks in school and it continues til this day.

    Paid because of the time of slavery in the USA and they are Negroes? BS! It looks like the government should have followed President Lincoln’s thoughts and sent the freed slaves back to Africa where they were captured and sold as slaves. They could have become slaves again and sold somewhere else.

    Who freed the slaves, black Americans or white Americans?

    How many of the black Americans of today can prove one of their ancestors was a slave in the USA?
