Countless people have been tuning in every day to see what’s happening with Johnny Depp’s very public trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. According to Vox, this complicated trial started with the actor accusing the actress of defamation, and both sides are blaming each other for domestic violence.
On Monday, the tempo of the ongoing defamation trial between Depp and Heard shifted as Amber faced the start of her cross-examination.’ After a week’s break, the trial resumed in a Fairfax, Virginia courtroom, with the actress now facing tough questions from Johnny’s attorney, Camille Vasquez.
One odd detail that you may have noticed throughout the trial is that, while Heard has been glancing at Depp, he has not made any eye contact with her.
Vasquez brought this behavior up in the trial, asking, “Good afternoon, Ms Heard,” she began. “Mr Depp hasn’t looked at you once this entire trial, has he?”
Taking time to adjust her microphone, Amber replied: “Not that I’ve noticed, no.”
“You’ve looked at him though, many times, haven’t you?” Camille continued. “Yes, I have,” answered Amber, wryly nodding her head.
“You know exactly why Mr Depp won’t look back at you, don’t you?” “I do,” Amber agreed.
Amber replied while taking a deep breath,“He promised you that you would never see his eyes again, isn’t that true? I don’t recall if he said that.”
Camille then played a tape that was recorded when Amber and Depp met in San Francisco after Amber filed for divorce.
“I’m nothing to you, and I’ll always be nothing to you,” Johnny can be heard saying. “We’ll never see each other again. You like looking at my *expletive* eyes? You will not see my eyes again.”
It was not lost on trial observers that Johnny refused to look over at his ex-wife at any point. In contrast, she has been seen from the other side of the courtroom staring at him.
Camille supplied Amber with images shot in the days following her allegation of domestic violence at the hands of her ex-husband. There were no visible symptoms of bruising, swelling, or other injuries in them.
She then shifted her attention to Amber’s charitable contributions. The actress acknowledged that she has not yet given the whole $7 million divorce settlement to a charity that she promised in 2016.
Under cross-examination, Amber testified that she has not been able to pay the charities – the ACLU and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles – because Johnny had sued her.
Amber, on the other hand, had the entire settlement amount in her accounts for 13 months before Johnny indicated he was taking her to trial, according to Camille.
Amber also testified that she didn’t want her ex-husband to donate the money to both charities directly because of tax benefits, but that he should transfer the money to her instead.
