These Women Tried To Protest The Taliban, What Happened Was Heartbreaking! kristel August 19, 2021 Uncategorized The Taliban is known for their very abusive nature towards women. Now, women are more terrified than ever for their comeback. In the past, they restricted women by only focusing on the importance of their household, and banned television and music and Women all around the country are afraid that their rights will be taken away, and that all of the progress they’ve gained in the last 20 years will be erased. In its first registered protest in Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power, several Afghan women in hijabs gathered in Kabul’s Wazir Akbar Khan area, holding placards and demanding equal rights and participation in government, politics, and economy. As the country is in fear and uncertainty, acts like these can change the course of events. What is clear from the statement that these four women made is that they don’t want to go back in time when they had no right to express their opinions. In a video that went viral on social media, the women can be seen holding the placards while being surrounded by Taliban gunmen. Despite the gunmen asking the protestors to move, the women stood their ground. Journalist Masih Alinejad wrote, “They [are simply] asking for their rights, the right to work, the right for education and the right to political participation. The right to live in a safe society.” These brave women took to the streets in Kabul to protest against Taliban. They simplify asking for their rights, the right to work, the right for education and the right to political participation. The right to live in a safe society. I hope more women and men join them. There is no way for women to prioritize their safety in this situation. They know what is coming. The ONLY way to improve their situation is to resist.” “Every freedom fighter chooses to die for freedom rather than be oppressed.” “If their Army would have been like these women, perhaps they would not have the need to be doing this now?? Perhaps if more join, then more who have grown up in the last 20 years may also join them? Perhaps a true revolution could happen?” Others applauded their unwavering courage in the face of an uncertain future, and hoped more will join them. “Holy crap these women are brave” “This is the only way to rebuild #Afghanistan– women & men rise up – roll up your sleeves and get to work. The new #Taliban is aware that the world is watching them & will likely not make the mistakes of the past.” “Time and time again women show that they have the guts and determination to build a better world, even when they have so much to lose personally. And still people question their ability to lead?” The Taliban announced on Monday that they want women involved in Afghanistan’s government — as appropriate within Islamic law, though no elaboration occurred. They also claimed they would not take retaliatory measures against Afghans who helped the former government or U.S. troops. Many remain skeptical of these unclear promises, wondering if this is merely part of a ploy by the Taliban to appear changed compared to 20 years ago, when their rule was brutal and devastating to their people. And if that skepticism is proven correct, going against the Taliban or demanding rights could prove to have dire consequences, making what these women did astonishingly brave in the midst of all this turmoil.
