One of the members of the outside legal team for President Trump called for the appointment of a new special prosecutor today. The reasoning was simple, to look into the conflicts of interests that seem to be infecting the Justice Department as well as the FBI.
The call seems to have been made by Jay Sekulo after a Fox News report that revealed the wife of at least one Justice Department official hid meetings with the firm that was responsible for the load of garbage that was the Trump dossier.
As it turns out, she happened to work for this firm around the time of the 2016 Presidential election.
Sekulow mentioned that another special prosecutor may be appointed to take a second look at this particular issue as well as others.
Sekulow spoke to Axios saying, “The Department of Justice and FBI cannot ignore the multiple problems that have been created by these obvious conflicts of interests. These new revelations require the appointment of a Special Counsel to investigate.”
The President’s legal team is not yet putting out a proper petition to get a special prosecutors although they are making their views very clear on this matter.
Sekulow also made sure to make a point of saying that this particular call had nothing to do with Mueller’s investigation/witch hunt into the President.
Something else that has been going on for months now is that House Republicans have been calling for the appointment of another special counsel that wold look into certain incidents that are closely connected to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Attorney General Sessions was questioned about she Sekulow call and said that he had already made a point of ordering the review after multiple discussions with members of Congress.
He explained,“I’ve put a senior attorney, with the resources he may need, to review cases in our office and make a recommendation to me … if things aren’t being pursued that need to be pursued, if cases may need more resources to complete in a proper manner, and to recommend to me if the standards for a special counsel are met.”
Either way, this situation needs to be more investigation and less witch hunt.
