Can you imagine finding out you are not who you thought you were? That the most basic things about you and your family were not as you’d been told, not true? A lie. Your whole life is a lie. Imagine learning that you were not their biological child and that you should have grown up with your real parents — not the ones who raised you.

All of a sudden your life is turned totally upside down. The parents who raised you were not your parents, and you are not who you have always believed yourself to be! Just picture how confusing it is.

As incomprehensible as this is, it happens every day that someone finds out as a young adult, in midlife, or as a senior that they were adopted and never knew it. Some only discover the shocking news while going through papers after their parents pass and have no one to confront or ask questions. But for a woman named LaneIsCool14 on TikTok had her life turned upside down when a stranger reached out to her on social media, urging her to take a DNA test.

Lane’s story is a heartbreaking tale of family secrets, deceit, and the power of social media to reveal the truth.

Lane was living her life like any other person on social media. One day, out of the blue, Lane received a message from a stranger who urged her to take a DNA test from Ancestry.com. The stranger promised her that this was not a spam message and that it was vital for her to take the test. Lane’s friend suggested that she should take the test, and so she did. To her surprise, Lane discovered that the man she had believed to be her biological father was not her real father. The person who had messaged her on social media was her biological dad!

This revelation left Lane stunned and heartbroken. She realized that her mother had kept a lie from her for decades to hide the truth about her biological father. She felt betrayed and cut off contact with her mother, vowing never to speak to her again.

Lane shared her story on TikTok and said, “About a year ago now, on January ninth, I get a text message telling me to get a DNA test from Ancestry, and I think it’s fake.” She couldn’t believe what she was hearing and thought that the message was a prank. However, the stranger urged her to take the test and discover the truth about her family origins.

Lane’s friend encouraged her to respond to the message, and she did. The stranger suggested that she take a DNA test from Ancestry.com and review her DNA matches. Lane was shocked to learn that the person who had messaged her was her biological father. After taking the DNA test, Lane found out that her mother had an affair with a man ten years younger than her when she was in college. Lane’s biological dad lived in California, and he had been following her on social media for years without her knowledge. He watched her grow up, from dating her boyfriend, to getting married, and having children.

“So I message him immediately, and he lives in California. He’s British. What the f**k? He said my mom sent him a Christmas card when I was two years old, saying my name in it and that he’s googled my name ever since. In 2007, my name popped up, and he saw a picture of me, and he knew immediately that I was his daughter.” Lane said, “So what did he do? He followed me on social media my entire life. He watched me date my boyfriend, get married, has babies, everything, all from the outside, not able to know me.”

Lane felt heartbroken by the truth and had to block contact with her mother. The man who had raised her as his own knew that he was not her biological father, and Lane had to come to terms with her new reality. She shared her story on social media and urged others to take the DNA test to uncover the truth about their family origins.

Her first video attracted 10.5 million views with many users shocked by Lane’s story and keen to find out more details.

“Horrific. He was denied a daughter,” one person wrote.

I am glad you know the truth but a hell of a way to find out,” another said.

“This is heartbreaking,” added another TikToker, while one remarked,You look so much like your bio dad.”

“That makes me so sad he missed out on so much when he wanted to be involved,” a third said.
