Petition to Jail Lawmaker Who Wished for Trump’s Assassination

Much controversy was ignited last week, including a petition, after a Missouri Democrat’s call for President Trump to be assassinated.

She has tried apologizing for her comments, but in a meeting this weekend she had no intentions on letting go of her seat in the Missouri State Senate despite discussion from both sides of the political aisle.

After feeling bad for her mistake, she made a direct apology directed straight to President Trump and his family outside a church in Ferguson.Petition

“President Trump, I apologize to you and your family,” she said. “I made a mistake, and I’m owning up to it. And I’m not ever going to make a mistake like that again. I have learned my lesson. My judge and my jury is my Lord, Jesus Christ.”

The apology wasn’t taken the way she had planned, as a petition to remove Chappelle-Nadal was the next move made.

From insiderfoxnews:

Americans are firing back at a Missouri state senator who said she hoped President Trump would be assassinated.

State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal (D) wrote “I hope Trump is assassinated” in an August 17 post on her Facebook page. She initially refused to apologize, but did so four days later.

petition to remove Chappelle-Nadal from office and jail her for threatening the president has garnered more than 15,600 signatures as of Tuesday afternoon.

“We cannot allow someone such as a State Senator who knowingly knew her position, took it for granted and used that to say whatever she wanted against our current President of the United States,” the petition states.

Chappelle-Nadal later apologized, saying, “I didn’t mean what I put up. Absolutely not. I was very frustrated. Things have got to change.”

Democrats have roundly condemned Chappelle-Nadal, including state Rep. Joshua Peters, D-St. Louis, who formally requested that she be removed and called her “an embarrassment nationally for the Missouri General Assembly.”

Chappelle-Nadal has a history of vitriolic interactions during her career, including getting into a fight with another state senator at a concert over police legislation.

A Secret Service investigation is looking into her comments.
