Opinion| Democratic New York freshman congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined other Democratic lawmakers for a press conference on Thursday.
The lawmakers slammed the Department of Homeland Security, insisting that the entire department be defunded.
Democrats joined immigration activists to discuss numerous cases of illegal immigrant which included the case of 7-year-old Jakelin Caal. Caal passed away not long after she illegally entered the country and was subsequently picked up by Border Patrol.
Conservative duo Diamond and Silk explain that “While Ocasio-Cortez attacked the DHS over the death of the little girl and shed tears, her death was not found to have had anything to do with Border Patrol care or treatment and her father said that he had no complaints about how the Border Patrol had treated them.”
The Democratic freshman congresswoman lashed out against President Donald Trump and the Department of Homeland Security. Ocasio Cortez claimed that the department “deserve a dime” until they begin to “embrace immigrants.” She also claimed that they don’t deserved money to support their “radical agenda.”

“We are a land of laws,” Ocasio-Cortez said. She argued that “illegal aliens are entitled to due process without seeming to care or acknowledge that the illegal aliens she is defending are breaking those laws,” according to Diamond and Silk.
Then she insisted that we stop deportations all together. “I will not make a compromise so that we unjustly deport just a few less. No. We will stop these practices altogether.”
As if she didn’t sound crazy enough, she then went on to claim that illegal immigrants should be exempt from criminal proceedings and should not have to obey immigration laws.

But she vowed Thursday to defund ICE completely and claimed Latinos should be exempt from criminal proceedings and immigration laws because they are descended from Mesoamerican cultures that preceded the United States.
‘We are standing on native land,’ she claimed, speaking just outside the U.S. Capitol. ‘And Latino people are descendants of native people. And we cannot be told, and criminalized, simply because for our identity or our status. Period.’
