I am appalled at the latest move by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to limit President Donald Trump‘s access to evidence in the case against him. Bragg’s office filed a motion to prevent Trump from independently reviewing the evidence without a lawyer present, citing concerns that he might publicize details of the case as he prepares for his 2024 White House bid.
This move is yet another example of the Democrats’ political witch hunt against a former president who is not even in office.
The case against Trump is unprecedented in American history, with 34 felony charges related to a $130,000 payment allegedly made to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
The case relies heavily on the testimony of Trump’s former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen, who claims to have made the payment at Trump’s behest. Democrats are using this case as a tool to attack a former president who they fear may return to power in the near future.
Bragg’s recent behavior has already raised questions about his motives and whether he is capable of conducting an unbiased prosecution. A federal judge has already admonished Bragg for fighting a subpoena from Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee to have a former employee testify about the inner workings of his office.
The judge reminded Bragg that no one is above the law and that he is not exempt from the political arena in his prosecution of Trump. Bragg’s representatives reportedly hung up on a Judiciary Committee staffer who tried to discuss the matter with them.
Trump’s legal team is expected to oppose Bragg’s latest motion, which is an attempt to further restrict the former president’s rights. Trump’s lawyers have already successfully blocked Bragg’s attempt to seek a gag order against Trump to prevent him from discussing the case publicly.
Assistant District Attorney Catherine McCaw cited Trump’s social media presence and a separate lawsuit related to the handling of classified documents as evidence that he cannot be trusted to review the documents alone. This claim is ridiculous and shows that Democrats will stop at nothing to try and take down Trump.
I believe that Bragg’s actions are a clear example of Democrats’ desperation to maintain their grip on power. The American people deserve a fair and impartial justice system, but it appears that Democrats are more interested in using the courts as a tool for political gain than in pursuing justice. The case against Trump is a sham, and I urge all Americans to stand up against these unjust attacks on a former president.
