The robber thought he could easily target a FedEx driver but later did he know, it would be his last robbery attempt.
As you might have heard, a UPS driver was held hostage and killed in Florida a few weeks before this incident happened. It’s an absolute tragedy.
That’s when a Pennsylvania FedEx driver decided that he wasn’t going to be put in the same position and carried his firearm with him while making his deliveries. Unfortunately, he did find himself in the position of having defended his life with his firearm.
But this time, the driver fought back…
According to reports, the 32-year-old driver was wounded in the stomach in the incident Tuesday night but was able to drive to the parking lot of a grocery store and receive help. He was taken by ambulance to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.
The 27-year-old suspect, identified as Jevan Lundy, was found unconscious in an alley with gunshot wounds to the chest and back. He was taken to Einstein Medical Center but died of his wounds.
Police have reportedly been light with details, though they did state that they recovered a weapon at the scene, and also got the driver’s FedEx badge off of Lundy.
Another man was found with Lundy, and that person’s car was subsequently searched. They believe that he used his car to drive Lundy away from the scene. Bullet casings were found on the floor of that car. It’s not clear if that man will face charges.
As for the victim in Philadelphia, police found him slumped over the steering wheel of his truck in a parking lot. He relayed his side of the story to officers.
“Based on the preliminary story that was relayed, it appears to be self-defense: he was shot first, he fired back,” said Christine Coulter, the Acting Police Commissioner.
Meanwhile, a FedEx spokesperson said, “The safety of our team members and service providers is a top priority and we are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities at this time.”
