Amid food inflation under the Biden administration, a man in Tennessee took matters into his own backyard by establishing a fish farm with at least 100 bluegill fish.
Harvey Tallman has noticed the rising cost of food, according to a report, at home; food prices have soared and are now 10% more expensive than they were in 2021.
“The price of food has gone to the point where you can’t afford to buy it,” Tallman said. “It’s either put gas in the car or eat.
Tallman decided to create a 1,000-gallon water tank and stock it with approximately 100 bluegills because the price of fish has gotten so exorbitant.
“When you go to the store, check on the price of fish,” he said. “It’s almost $9 a pound. It’s ridiculous.”
“I put 100 in there, five are dead,” Tallman added.
When the fish reach 3 pounds, the fish farmer plans to eat them in September.
Tallman grows most of the food he eats, aside from the fish. Asparagus, tomatoes, broccoli, and potatoes are among the vegetables in his garden.
“I have been harvesting asparagus now for almost a month. When you’re really low on groceries, you’ve got fresh asparagus,” he said. “Eggs are going up to $3 a dozen or higher.”
Tallman said he is just trying to survive the rising prices.
“I have been a survivalist since I was 6 years old,” Tallman said.
According to the Labor Department, consumer prices jumped by 8.5 percent in March, the highest year-over-year increase since February 1981.
Following a 0.8 percent gain in February, the consumer price index (CPI), which monitors the cost of various goods and services, grew by 1.2 percent last month. The key drivers of growing inflation are gas, food, and shelter.
The USDA also predicts food prices at grocery stores and supermarkets will increase between 5 and 6 percent.
Meat, poultry, and fish are some of the food items climbing in cost.
As inflation in the United States approaches a record 40-year high, people are feeling the struggle as prices for transportation, groceries, and household items rise and the Biden administration still has no answer on how to solve this.
