Given the fact that Tesla and SpaceX are both the most desirable places for prospective job seekers and ranked as the most attractive place for engineering students to work at. It’s pretty obvious that Elon Musk’s management style is exemplary and effective.
Musk is known for his brash management style and also known for having high expectations for his employees.
As some companies try and delicately walk the line between returning to the office and offering “work from home” benefits to their employees in a post-Covid world, Musk has taken a stance without quite as much nuance.
On Tuesday, Musk ordered Tesla staffers back into the office full-time, and invited employees who weren’t happy to pack up and “pretend to work somewhere else.”
A consistent principle that Musk has held is to expect as much, if not more from his executives as he does from regular employees working at his factories.
“The more senior you are, the more visible must be your presence”, believes Tesla CEO Elon Musk who claims to have spent many nights sleeping in the Tesla factory. In a purported company-wide email that surfaced recently, Musk addressed his employees on the subject of remote working.
Clearly not in support of the idea, he has warned that every Tesla employee must work a minimum of 40 hours in the office where “actual colleagues” are located instead of some “pseudo office”.
“If you don’t show up, we will assume you have resigned”, the mail read further. This was shared on Twitter by a user named Sheel Mohnot whose profile says he is a fintech seed investor.

They should pretend to work somewhere else

They should pretend to work somewhere else.
“Elon Musk has told Tesla executives, in no uncertain terms, that they can no longer work remotely, Bloomberg reports.
Elaborating on an internal memo the Tesla CEO sent, Musk shared in a tweet that he has told his top executives that they must return to “the office for a minimum (and I mean *minimum*) of 40 hours per week or depart Tesla. This is less than we ask of factory workers.”
If that is not acceptable to any executive, then they are free to “pretend to work somewhere else,” Musk tweeted.
In the internal email with the subject line of “Remote work is no longer acceptble [sic],” Musk said that executives and others who return to the office must work from “a main Tesla office, not a remote branch office unrelated to the job duties (or) in another state.”
