In 2009 Nadya Suleman, who had given birth to eight babies that all survived the process set a world record. However, on May 5, 2021, Halima Cisse beat the record by successfully giving birth to nine babies at the Ain Borja clinic in Casablanca, Morocco, and as Cisse’s grueling pregnancy finally came to an end the babies are finally almost ready to return home to Mali, the little ones have been under careful observation in the months since Cisse gave birth to her nine children.
In heartwarming pictures shared on their social media, the mother of now 10 children shared lovely pictures of the five girls and four boys while marking their first birthday in pomp and color for the very first time. The family is about to board a plane and fly back to Mali where they can resume their lives as a family now that they are in much better health.
The media, which is very keen to meet the infants who hold the world record for the most children born at one time, may never let them entirely go, though. The family has been under close care from hospital workers who were ensuring the little ones survived the ordeal, although Cisse gave birth five months ago.
Speaking to MaliOnline the excited mother, Ms. Cisse, 26 noted, “All of them are getting on very well, and are a joy to look after. They are getting stronger every day and it may well be they are allowed to leave full time medical care soon, so that we can take them home.”
The nine babies include four boys and five girls namely, Mohammed, Bah, El Hadji, and Oumar for the boys.
The girls are called Adama, Hawa, Fatouma, Kadidia, and Oumou, they were all born naturally to Cisse.
However, they were quite light at birth, weighing only 500–1 kg, and the newborns had to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit. Hospital staff used incubators to help the children survive birth and get healthier during their first few months of life.
The babies were taken out of the incubators in early August. Since then the family has had to live in a flat near the hospital to enable the medical staff to continue monitoring the babies but they are now ready to return to their home country Mali.
“Giving birth to one child is hard enough, but having nine is unimaginable, It’s astonishing the amount of work that is involved in looking after them. I’m grateful to the medical team that is doing all the hard work and the Government of Mali for funding this,” said mom.
The father of the children and Cessis’ spouse Kader, 35, agreed that the mother’s blood loss during labor was extremely risky. The infants and the birthing fluids were estimated by the doctors to weigh more than 30 kg in the mother’s belly. He said, “Being together as a family is the best thing in the world, and we give thanks to God all the time. The most important thing is that we are all safe and well and in great hands.”
