Latanya Young, the daughter of rapper and music producer Dr. Dre, has been struggling to make ends meet as she has not received any financial support from her father for the past 18 months.
Despite being ordered by the court to pay $300,000 per month in spousal support to his ex-wife, Nicole Young, during the pandemic, Dr. Dre has not provided any financial assistance to his daughter, who works as a delivery driver for Uber Eats and DoorDash to make a living. Young’s father has been ignoring her requests for help, forcing her to take odd jobs to support her family of four.
In addition to her delivery jobs, Young works the third shift as an assembler at a Los Angeles warehouse. Despite her efforts, her family’s financial situation is deteriorating, and her producer father has not provided any assistance to her.
“The car is a pretty penny,” she said. “It’s an SUV that costs $2,300 for three weeks, and I only paid for one week. Sooner or later, they are going to take the car.”
Young is the daughter of Dre and Lisa Johnson, who separated when she was just five years old. She has not seen her father in eighteen years and must communicate through his team if she wishes to speak with him.
Young has four children, including her eight-year-old son D’Andre, who she named after her father, as well as Tatiyana, Rhiana, and Jason III. DailyMail.com reported that she is struggling to stay afloat and has been in debt for some time. She may even lose her rental car, which has also provided her with a roof over her head, as she is unable to make the payments. Her children are currently staying with friends, but she has to live out of her car most of the time.
Last month, Young moved from Nevada to California with her children in search of work but has been struggling to find any.
“The wage is higher in California – there was no work in Nevada. There weren’t enough jobs. I have friends and family that will let us come back and forth, but the majority of the time, I’m living out of my car.”
Young said that she is trying to keep her head above water but is living a difficult life as a result of her father’s refusal to provide her with financial support.
