Famous celebrity, George Clooney, eludes to retirement with old age being his lame scape goat.
George Clooney is a known left leaning activist and many of his recent political comments have landed him in hot water. Now it appears that his career may be coming to an end as well, but not for the reason Clooney is claiming.
Many actors have crossed over from the young heart throb to the distinguished gentlemen role once reaching a certain age. Clooney is now in this situation at the age of 56 yet his looks aren’t the reason he isn’t getting anymore leading roles, it’s his lack of true talent. As both an actor and a director Clooney has had a mediocre career but is portraying his decision to retire as less of a pathetic reason, age. In reality his age has nothing to do with his talentless acting and directing abilities to which he even admits have nothing to do with his immense wealth which actually has nothing to do with movies and everything to do with tequila.
“I’m 56. I’m not the guy that gets the girl anymore,” he told the Sunday Times. “I shouldn’t be the guy that gets the girl. But, look, if somebody’s got Paul Newman in The Verdict, I’d jump. But there aren’t that many like that. Acting used to be how I paid the rent, but I sold a tequila company for a billion f****** dollars. I don’t need money.”
How humble.
Without the additional help of Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts in the Ocean series, Clooney has not anchored a bona fide smash since 2000’s The Perfect Storm. It has been six years since The Descendants cleared a very respectable $82 million but probably would have with anyone in that role.
As a director, his track record is even worse. Even in the bubble where everyone pretends Clooney is a Big Star and not a mediocre screenwriter/director, the breathtaking critical and box office failure of Suburbicon last month, which will be lucky to gross $6 million, will give investors and studios pause.
George Clooney is a liberal celebrity has been who has an obscene amount of money for basically no reason. Must be nice.
