President Biden’s director of rapid response Director Mike Gwin is set to leave the White House press office, marking yet another departure from the communications team during a minor staff shuffle. Mike Gwin, who has been in the White House since Biden took office, will be the Treasury Department’s deputy assistant secretary for public affairs. According to reports, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre wished Gwin luck in his new job at the Treasury. In a statement, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said: “Michael Gwin has been an indispensable member of our team. His quiet talent, laser-focused approach, and eagerness to take on whatever challenge comes his way has made him a tremendous asset. I know he’s moving on to bigger and better things, and only wish him the best at Treasury.” Working on the economic communications team and serving as the principal spokeswoman for the Bipartisan Innovation Act were among Gwin’s duties. Prior to joining the White House, he served as Biden’s deputy quick response director and spokeswoman for the primary and general elections. Others who have left the press office this week include Vedant Patel, Jean-Pierre announced on Wednesday, Patel who had been an assistant press secretary since January 2021 and has moved to the State Department, and Amanda Finney, the White House press office’s chief of staff, who has moved to the Department of Energy. Amanda Finney, the press office’s chief of staff, will join the Energy Department as deputy director of public affairs. Gwin, Patel, and Finney’s departures come amid allegations of tension and frustration inside the administration, the NY Post reported.
