Following Brian Stelter’s dismissal, CNN CEO Chris Licht warned his workers of upcoming “major” changes they “may not understand or enjoy.”

The decision to fire former chief media correspondent Stelter and his program “Reliable Sources” from CNN followed Licht’s promise to overhaul the network and steer clear of opinion-based programming.

According to numerous people who attended Friday’s editorial meeting call, Licht said “I want to acknowledge that this is a time of significant change, and I know that many of you are unsettled, There will be more changes, and you might not understand it or like it.”

“I really appreciate all that Brian has done to build the media beat for CNN,” Licht said of Stelter who has been hosting the media analysis program since 2013 and whose final episode will run on Sunday, “He’s a great human being and a good person. I wish him all the best on his new venture.”

The “Reliable Sources” cancellation by CNN comes at 11 a.m. Sunday show was dragging in the ratings. Additionally, it comes after a stronger effort under Licht to make CNN’s reporting less left-leaning and more moderate. As The “Reliable Sources” host has been evasive on his views of former President Donald Trump.

Stelter said goodbye at the close of his Sunday show after the network announced that it was canceling the 30-year-old media criticism show “Reliable Sources.”I believe CNN will always be strong. You viewers at home, it’s on you. CNN must remain strong.”

All of the current information about the changes at CNN coincides with a sharp decline in its ratings, which this year averaged just 787,000, or less than half of those of its rival Fox News.

However, Stelter’s program suffered in its rating battle with Fox News.

This year, MediaBuzz, a Fox competitor program, has averaged 1.5 million viewers while Reliable Sources has 787,000.

Since 2015, Reliable Sources’ ratings have been at their lowest point, and its overall audience has decreased by 26% from the previous year.

Between the ages of 25 and 54, it has decreased by 34%, and between 18 and 49, it has decreased by 31%.

Stelter’s future plans have not been disclosed, however, CNN senior media correspondent Oliver Darcy will take over as editor of the “Reliable Sources” newsletter, and CNN “will be expanding” its coverage.
