Other than the “Rust” issues, Alec Baldwin just took another brutal blow.
Alec Baldwin is being sued for defamation by the family of a Marine killed in the August 26 airport bombing in Kabul.
According to a document filed with the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming, Marine’s two sisters, Cheyenne and Roice McCollum, and widow, Jiennah McCollum, filed a lawsuit on Monday alleging that Baldwin falsely accused and publicized Roice of taking part in the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, calling her an “insurrectionist.”
The article goes on to state the following:
Their family member, Rylee McCollum, 20, was one of 13 U.S. service members killed in a bombing on Aug. 26, 2021, outside the Kabul airport as refugees fleeing the state following the Taliban takeover were processed by the U.S. military.
According to the report, Baldwin sent a $5,000 check to Rylee McCollum’s fiancee and baby after discovering a GoFundMe page for the family and explaining that he wanted to honor a dead soldier by doing so.
Then on January 3, he found photos in a social media post showing Roice at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, and commented, “Are you the same woman that I sent the $ to for your sister’s husband who was killed during the Afghanistan exit? ”
When Roice confirmed the photo was of her, Baldwin sent her a private message, saying, “When I sent the $ for your late brother, out of real respect for his service to this country, I didn’t know you were a January 6th rioter.”
According to the $25 million lawsuits, more “hostile, aggressive, and nasty texts” followed.
Roice stated she attended the January 6 march but did not take part in the Capitol riot. The FBI interviewed her and found no evidence of misconduct.
Fox News shared more of the exchange between Roice and Baldwin:
Roice responded: “Protesting is perfectly legal in the country and I’ve already had my sit down with the FBI. Thanks, have a nice day!”
“I don’t think so. Your activities resulted in the unlawful destruction of government property, the death of a law enforcement officer, an assault on the certification of the presidential election,” Baldwin replied. “I reposted your photo. Good luck.”
Baldwin went on to repost the photo and call Roice an “insurrectionist” to his 2.4 million Instagram followers in a since-deleted post. Roice, her sister Cheyenne and Jiennah are suing Baldwin over his direct message and the decision to share his belief that Roice took part in the rioting.
Since Baldwin made the charges against her, Roice McCollum claims she and her family have been bombarded with hostile and threatening comments. They have filed a $25 million lawsuit against Baldwin for alleged defamation, invasion of privacy, carelessness, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
@AlecBaldwin since you’re talking about honoring people who have passed. Is this how you honor the gold star family of Rylee McCollum?? Why did you delete this post? You only left it up long enough for your followers to see and go attack her #AlecBaldwin #ryleemccollum pic.twitter.com/6SpJqkhymP
