Friday morning, the co-hosts of “Mornings With Maria” on Fox Business Network said that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen may be held accountable for record inflation.
Broadcaster Maria Bartiromo told co-host, Dagen McDowell:
“We will see if she takes the fall for this after a year telling us [inflation] was transitory.”
Bartiromo previously told McDowell:
“I’ve been getting emails from Wall Street people. The public is astonished. They are unaware that Janet Yellen is as enlightened as she is.”
Following Yellen’s Tuesday hearing before the Senate Finance Committee, in which she expressed hope for action on climate change and gun regulation.
Here’s what Yellen said on Tuesday in prepared remarks while testifying before the Senate Finance Committee:
“We currently face macroeconomic challenges, including unacceptable levels of inflation as well as the headwinds associated with the disruptions caused by the pandemic’s effect on supply chains, and the effects of supply side disturbances to oil and food markets resulting from Russia’s war in Ukraine.”
Bartiromo questioned McDowell about her sources’ reactions.
McDowell said:
“She got the job and is expected to carry water for this completely disconnected hideous administration that’s overseeing this more than doubling in gasoline prices .”
“So she needs to be the messenger on all of this. I don’t think people should be surprised about it, but in terms of a recession, she will be the treasury secretary that has, well, overseen snapback in inflation that certainly I have never seen in my lifetime, but also a recession that’s on the horizon.”
