While the main purpose of Republican lawmakers in Florida was to protect our children, the happiest place on earth seems not happy about it.
Now, Disney World is getting backlash from the Republican party and its supporters over its stance on the Parental Rights in Education law.
The law, commonly referred to as the “Don’t Say Gay” law, bans any instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity that is not age-appropriate for students, according to state standards. For grades K through third, the bill bans instruction on those topics altogether.
Disney has spoken out against the law, which has now prompted Gov. Ron DeSantis to call for the removal of the special status that allows the company to operate as an independent government.
WLT commented on Disney’s long history of allegations related to children:
Disney is a company with a long history of allegations relating to subliminal messaging in children.
More specifically, sexual subliminal messaging. It matters not whether that subliminal messaging is heterosexual or homosexual—small children should not be exposed to those ideas.
Many concerned parents feel this way, and while the increasingly woke agenda may be the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back it isn’t the sole reason this company is facing heat.
Like I said, this company has a long history of being hit with these allegations, and in the past they were expressly heterosexual subliminal messages, or sexual imagery with no explicit sexual orientation.
A big part of the reason the media conglomerate feels all too comfortable in its own skin, and feels like it can regularly push this messaging out while facing little to no criticism stems from the fact that they are treated in a special way legally.
Florida State Rep Spencer Roach announced on Twitter that state legislators met at least twice to discuss potentially changing municipal government agreements affecting Walt Disney World in retaliation for what he called the company’s “woke ideology.”
Roach tweeted on the 30th of march:
“Yesterday was the second meeting in a week with fellow legislators to discuss a repeal of the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act, which allows Disney to act as its own government. If Disney wants to embrace ‘woke’ ideology, it seems fitting that they should be regulated by Orange County.”
Governor DeSantis said repealing the act would not necessarily be in retaliation for Disney’s statements but as part of a broader effort to strip the company of what he called “special privileges.”
Walt Disney World in Florida is subject to its own governance, it has its own police force, EMS, and building codes not subject to the surrounding county’s laws due to the Reedy Creek Improvement Act passed in 1967.
Disney World is in effect its own country with special privileges, and such power seems to have gone to the heads of those controlling a company that has become almost as powerful and pervasive as the military-industrial complex.
Here’s more on the story:

Florida GOP lawmakers are seeking to punish Disney by revoking the self-governing charter they’ve had since 1967. Disney has it’s own police, fire, and building codes. https://t.co/ABqqq12TGH

Fox News also reported:
Florida legislators have floated the idea of repealing the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act, which gives Disney the autonomy to effectively run its own government in the area around Disney World, in response to the company’s recent advocacy against the parental rights law H.B. 1557, which critics have branded the “Don’t Say Gay” law. Repealing the law would subject Disney World to the government of Orange County.
“I don’t think it’s retaliatory, I just think that Disney’s posturing has alienated a lot of people now.”
