A once-in-a-century pandemic has now infected one consecutive president. The White House has announced that Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, a day after rushing to retract his false claim that he has cancer.
After Kamala Harris who also tested positive in April, the 79-year-old president, who has been boosted four times, is said to be experiencing “very mild symptoms.” Biden erroneously asserted in July 2021 that “You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations,” and he implied that COVID was a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” in January 2022.
However, according to a letter issued by Kevin O’Connor, the president’s doctor, Biden is currently suffering from moderate symptoms, mostly a runny nose, an infrequent dry cough, and exhaustion. Biden received his diagnosis following his return from tours to the Middle East and New England.

In a statement Thursday morning, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “This morning, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19, He is fully vaccinated and twice boosted and experiencing very mild symptoms.” And is taking Paxlovid and is isolated at the White House, consistent with CDC guidelines. He will “continue to work in isolation until he tests negative,” and will return to work in person once he has a negative test.
But Adm. Brett Giroir, former Trump coronavirus testing czar, expressed concern over Joe Biden testing positive for COVID in an interview with Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom on Thursday, He warned that the president was “at risk” as he battled the sickness because of Biden’s “old age” and “underlying health issues.”
“I think we need to be quite careful because the president is at advanced age,” Giroir advised. “He also has underlying health conditions, including Atrial fibrillation. He’s had previous aneurysms and strokes. So, I would be cautious. I wouldn’t be so rosy, potentially as Dr. Makary, that everything is going to be fine. He is at risk.”
