Of course, like father like son, while Joe Biden has an abusive relationship with the American people, his son Hunter once had a very similar dynamic going on with his now ex-wife.
Kathleen Buhle, the ex-wife of Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, says she has “complete control over my life now,” five years after their divorce, in a new memoir.
Buhle talks about her ex-drug husband’s addiction, her reaction to his adultery — which included an affair with her widowed sister-in-law — and her difficulties assimilating into the Biden family. People magazine released excerpts from “If We Break” on Wednesday.
Buhle explains the agony she felt as she saw Hunter descend into addiction, even as he denied it, and how documenting it “become my own addiction.” She claims the pair split up shortly after Beau Biden’s death from brain cancer in 2015, when Buhle discovered a crack pipe in their ashtray.
Hunter Biden’s romance with Hallie Biden, Beau’s widow, was revealed to Buhle in November 2016 after her daughters urged the family’s therapist to inform her.
“I was shocked, but not heartbroken. Heartbreak has already flatted my self-esteem that past year,” she writes. She says her daughters discovered the relationship when searching through texts on Hunter’s phone.
Buhle told People that she and Hunter “come together in our shared love for our daughters,” as they prepare for their eldest daughter Naomi’s wedding at the White House this November.
While Hunter’s finances are under investigation by the Justice Department, Buhle told People that “I couldn’t be of any help,” adding, “I kept my head so deeply buried in the sand on our finances.
Buhle recalls receiving “one frequent reminder I wasn’t a true Biden” when Biden became President Barack Obama’s vice president in 2008, when a Secret Service member informed the family that her then-husband and daughters would receive round-the-clock protection, but not her.
Buhle legally recovered her maiden name in 2019, describing it as a “crown and shield” to her.
“I was no longer a Biden,” she writes. “I’d handed in my crown and shield because I no longer needed them. Maybe I never had.”
