A dispute at a McDonald’s restaurant escalates into a beating of a customer in a graphic video that is making the rounds online. The victim supposedly “disrespected” her mother. Marie Dayag, who posted the fight on Facebook and Instagram, said that the altercation began when the client attempted to put soda in a free water cup.
The caption, of the video posted to Facebook, says “So this happened at McDonald’s… the lady asked for a water cup and supervisor shut down the soda machine because she wasn’t letting her get a free soda.”
The fight breaks out after the customer hurls a milkshake at the employee.
As the staff member, Erika Chavolla storms toward her, the customer, Sabrinah Fontelar picks up a metal tray and hits her in the head with it, but she barely notices.
Instead, she grabs the customer by the hair and begins raining punches down on her head and face. Being much larger than her opponent, the McDonald’s employee proceeds to pick her up and throw her over a nearby table as other employees and even a customer runs over to try and break it up.
When a different McDonald’s employee tries to take the customer away, the latter attacks her instead, reigniting the altercation. Following a restart of the altercation, Fontelar is struck in the head and face once more before being thrown over another table by Chavolla.
Although it is not clear what this is in reference to, the staff member can be heard shouting at one point saying, “my momma aint dead, you respect my momma.”
Anyone who experiences violence at work does not deserve it. Despite the cliché that the customer is always right, this McDonald’s customer was acting completely inappropriately. She shouldn’t have insulted her mother or thrown a milkshake at the employee.
McDonald’s said in a statement that it is looking into the incident and “does not condone the behavior exhibited in this video.” It’s difficult to imagine that the entire argument was sparked by a free soda and a “your momma” insult. If Erika Chavolla had just told her manager or the police about the rowdy customer, the vicious fight that ensued might have been stopped.
Following the incident, Chavolla said that she still has her work at McDonald’s. She also flaunted a scratch on her palm where Sabrinah Fontelar‘s teeth had been struck.
“It’s crazy, people think just because you’re working. She was trying to smack for a long time. I wasn’t even going to hit her. When there’s a big girl coming towards her, she started freaking out. Don’t talk about my momma!”
