Did the Democrats really think that we weren’t going to remember their 2013 vote to allow $46 billion to go towards our nation’s border security?
Well, we remember, and it’s clear as day that the sudden shift in what they consider to be appropriate border security is due to their distain for President Donald Trump and his administration.
Democrats have been making excuse after excuse about the partial government shutdown, one being the cost of President Trump’s coveted border wall.
On Friday, Democratic Kentucky Representative John Yarmuth made an appearance on the Hill’s “Rising.” During his time on the show, he explained that the amount that President Trump requested to fund the border wall wasn’t much compared to what Dems have offered to pay for our nation’s border security in the past.

It was reported by the Daily Wire that in the past, the Democrats have approved much higher requests for border security funding.
Conservative Tribune reports, “In 2006 that amount was $50 billion over a period of 25 years. It was approved by 26 Senate Democrats. The Boston Globe reported that the funds were to cover a secure barrier along the southern border. Then-Sens. Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama all voted for the the Secure Fence Act of 2006. The Globe goes on to note that Obama praised the bill at the time, saying, ‘The bill before us will certainly do some good.’”
Obama claimed that he would make “better fences and better security along our borders.”
He also showed praise because he claimed it would “help stem some of the tide of illegal immigration in this country.” But that is not the only example of Democratic hypocrisy on border wall spending.
All 54 Senate Democrats voted in favor of approving a $46 billion request for border security in 2013. The Daily Wire reported that this funding included enough for 700 miles of fencing along the border.
A report released by the Associated Press stated that the 700 miles of fencing along the border also included another 350 miles of brand new fencing. The money was allowed, in part, to “ensure that 90 percent of would-be crossers are caught or turned back.”
The same Democrats who supported border security during Obama’s presidency are saying no, now that Trump is in charge.

In 2009, while speaking at Georgetown University, Sen. Schumer, D-NY, said “illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple.” Indirectly referencing over 600 miles of border fence that had already been built, he literally claimed it was a “significant barrier to illegal immigration.” This is exactly President Trump’s position about completing the border wall, almost word for word.
Schumer is also on record, and on video, as having said, “One of the most effective things we do on the border is turn people back … they get up to the border and we find them and say, ‘go home!’” Again, this is President Trump’s position, almost word for word.
House Minority Leader and incoming Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., also had a different position on borders. In 2008 she said, “Because we do need to address the issue of immigration and the challenge we have of undocumented people in our country. We certainly do not want any more coming in.”
Even Hillary Clinton, the Democratic frontrunner for president took a hard line on illegal immigration as late as 2014 saying, “We have to send a clear message that just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean your child gets to stay. We don’t want to send a message that is contrary to our laws or encourage more children to make that dangerous journey.”
The Democrats tend to support an idea when one of their own presents it, but shoot down the very same idea when it comes from a Republican. Pretty pathetic that they don’t care enough to cover their tracks, either.
