Colin Kaepernick is getting the attention that he wanted. He is the most hated player in the NFL after he started the trend of taking a knee during the Nation Anthem. U.S. Pacific Command Commander Adm. Harry Harris gives an amazing speech of how the men and women who died protecting this country never fail to stand during the national Anthem. He was met with thundering applause and a standing ovation.
VIA| As part of his speech, he got in quite a dig at San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick for his decision to protest the national anthem this year.
“You can bet that the men and women we honor today — and those who died that fateful morning 75 years ago — never took a knee and never failed to stand whenever they heard our national anthem being played,” Harris said, according to Fox News.
In response, the crowd of thousands gave him an extended standing ovation on a pier perched across the harbor from where the USS Arizona sank 75 years ago.
“Today we have an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a patriot, to reflect on what it means to be a nation tested by war,” he said, “and to reflect on both of the costs and blessings of liberty.”
Later in Harris’ speech he reflected on the words in the national anthem: “Hearing the words, ‘The land of the free and home of the brave’ means something special for every American, every day. But today, on Dec. 7, it takes on extraordinary significance.”
The Department of Defense initially shared Harris’ words both on Twitter and Facebook, but according to CNN, the posts have since been deleted.
Apparently President Barack Obama’s DOD doesn’t want you to, but you can watch Harris’ Kaepernick burn below:
