California Governor has officially signed legislation allowing the entirety of California to be a refuge for illegals as a sanctuary state and ICE is promising to target them in response.
SB54 makes California a sanctuary state that allows illegals safe harbor while within its jurisdiction regardless of the criminal nature of each individual immigrant. This act openly endangers the safety of American citizens residing in this area as law enforcement agents are specifically instructed to release illegals in the name of amnesty.
What’s even more upsetting is the financial burden placed on California by the sheer volume of illegals residing there and the fact that this isn’t even an issue for the Governor as he believes federal funding should still be given despite the denial for cooperation regarding search and seizure of illegal immigrants in accordance to ICE protocol.
In response to the state wide sanctuary status of California, ICE has issued a chilling response that lets government officials know that state law is NOT above federal and this move will only result in an increased surge of raids in order to outweigh the ‘safe harbor’ belief.
Under threat of possible retaliation by the Trump administration, California’s Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law “sanctuary state” legislation Thursday, which greatly limits how and whom state and local law enforcement agencies can hold, question and transfer at the request of federal immigration authorities. ICE however, issued a stern rebuke of Gov. Brown in response.
According to the Washington Examiner:
ICE rebuked Brown on Friday for enacting a statewide sanctuary law for illegal immigrants, and said the decision will prompt a higher number of raids that target that population.
Acting ICE Director Tom Homan said in a statement. “Governor Jerry Brown’s decision to sign SB54 and make California a sanctuary state for illegal aliens – including those who have committed crimes – will undermine public safety and hinder ICE from performing its federally mandated mission. The governor is simply wrong when he claims otherwise,”
“ICE will have no choice but to conduct at-large arrests in local neighborhoods and at worksites, which will inevitably result in additional collateral arrests, instead of focusing on arrests at jails and prisons where transfers are safer for ICE officers and the community,” Homan added. “ICE will also likely have to detain individuals arrested in California in detention facilities outside of the state, far from any family they may have in California.”
