Opinion| I have to confess, I was not always the biggest fan of Ted Cruz.
However, Cruz has really come into his own over these past few years. We all owe the man a debt of gratitude for being the only Senator who had a clue what he was talking about when he got to interrogate the big tech CEO’s and underlings. As a former attorney and Solicitor General of Texas, the man knows the law, perhaps better than anyone.
While Ted used to be seem hard to relate too and uncomfortable in the public eye, recently Cruz has seemingly come out of his shell … with both guns blazing.
Ted Cruz has been one of the few Senators who is willing to take President Trump’s back on the hard issues that matter most to the conservative base. Over Cruz’s last term has has earned my respect and support.
One of these issues that Cruz has been in the trenches fighting side by side with Trump on is locating the proper funding for “Trump’s Wall.”
Of all the ideas that I have heard, and I have heard a lot, concerning how we will pay for the wall, Ted Cruz’s idea is hands down the best … by miles and miles …
According to CBS Austin:
Texas senator Ted Cruz has an idea to fund President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall.
Just make Joaquín Guzmán Loera, also known as “El Chapo,” pay for the wall. Mexico’s most notorious drug lord was convicted Tuesday of running an industrial-scale smuggling operation that could put the 61-year-old escape artist behind bars for decades in a maximum-security U.S. prison.
Prosecutors are seeking $14 billion from “El Chapo,” which is more than double President Trump’s $5.7 billion wish list for the border wall.
Unsurprisingly, an attorney for the disgraced former king pin of the Sinaloa Cartel took objection to Senator Cruz’s proposal. Channeling Vicente Fox, the counsel for the convicted criminal had a special message for Cruz … El Chapo is not paying for the wall.
Remember when I said Cruz has really come into his own the last few years … this is exactly what I am talking about. The Senator from Texas is still as polite and polished as ever, but he has figured out how to unleash just the right amount of wit, at just the right times.
For instance, his reply to Guzman’s attorney:
That’s not how this works, that not how any of this works Chapo! Thank God for Ted Cruz.
