Opinion | As you’re probably aware, the partial government shutdown came to an end this week… without an agreement being made on funding for a coveted border wall, however, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham expertly warned Democrats about what will happen next. Conservative Tribune reports: On Friday, President Donald Trump ended the government shutdown after 35 days, and there is still no border wall. But the shutdown doesn’t mean the discussion is over — Trump is still dedicated to his biggest campaign promise. In an interview with Fox News on Friday, Graham outlined what Democrats should expect from post-shutdown negotiations about border security. Graham explained that Trump is willing to make compromises that Democrats should be able to accept. Democrats ultimately rejected a bill in which the President offered to add DACA recipient protection, as well as making numerous other concessions to the Dems. Trump asked for the $5.7 billion needed to fund the border wall in exchange. “The bottom line is the TPS recipients who have been here for decades as a result of natural disasters, wars, they’re going to begin to lose their legal status this year. You have DACA folks who are in sort of legal limbo. The president is willing to give 1.1 million people a better life if he can get a secure border,” Graham stated. This is huge coming from the President, who in the past, was outspoken against DACA. “If Democrats cared about DACA recipients as much as they claim to, they would eagerly accept Trump’s compromise,” Conservative Tribune explains. “This is the first time in 12 years I’ve seen a deal where you secure your border and give a better life to the DACA/TPS population,” Graham went on. “If the Democrats do not work with us, the biggest losers, in my view, are gonna be the TPS/DACA recipients because this president will secure our border through executive action.” The Republican Senator believes that the Democrats will keep on rejecting Trump’s proposals, however, he still has the option of declaring a national emergency. “Come February the 15th, if the Democrats still say, ‘Go to hell on the wall,’ ‘You get a dollar, that’s it,’ they basically tell Trump, ‘I’m not going to do with you what I did with Bush and Obama,’ then I hope he will go the emergency route,” Graham went on. On Friday, Trump made it clear that he is willing and ready to invoke declare a national emergency in order to construct the wall. “If we don’t get a fair deal from congress, the government either shutdown on February 15th again or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws, and the constitution of the United States, to address this emergency,” Trump stated. . @realDonaldTrump : "So let me be very clear…If we don't get a fair deal from congress, the government either shutdown on February 15th again or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws, and the constitution of the United States, to address this emergency." pic.twitter.com/1rqvmmnKp8 — Washington Examiner (@dcexaminer) January 25, 2019 The shutdown may be over, but the battle is just beginning but no matter what … the wall is coming!
